30th March 2011. A photographer was among more than 50 people killed in Iraq yesterday when gunmen stormed a government building.
Sabah al-Bazee, 30, had worked as a freelance photojournalist for Reuters since 2004. He died after suffering shrapnel wounds in an explosion at a provincial council building in Tikrit. The building had been attacked by an armed group who set off car bombs, explosive belts and grenades, reported the agency.
Sabah was a valued member of the Reuters team said the agency's Editor-in-Chief Stephen Adler. 'This tragic incident shows yet again the risks journalists face daily in doing their jobs and to bring news to the world.
'Our thoughts are with Sabah's family and friends.'
